Truvativ GigaPipe Bottom Bracket, specifically designed for mountain bikes. Based on the "SPL" and "DHLT" markings visible on the label, it appears to be an ISIS Drive (International Spline Interface Standard) model.
These were popular in the early to mid-2000s for heavy-duty riding like Downhill (DH) because the splined interface was much stronger than the older square-taper design.
Key Technical Specs
-
Interface: ISIS Drive (10-spline spindle). You will need ISIS-compatible crank arms to use this.
-
Shell Width: The label mentions "68(E)/73", meaning it fits standard 68mm (with a spacer or E-type derailleur) or 73mm bottom bracket shells.
-
Torque Spec: As noted on the sticker, the cups should be torqued to 34–41 N·m (25–30 ft-lb).
Maintenance Tips
If you are planning to install or remove this, keep a few things in mind:
-
The Drive-Side Rule: Most of these use English threading (BSA). This means the drive side (the side with the chainrings) is reverse-threaded. You turn it clockwise to loosen it.
-
The Tool: You’ll need a specific ISIS/Octalink bottom bracket tool (like a Park Tool BBT-22) to engage those internal splines on the cups.
-
Check the Bearings: Since this is an older component, spin the spindle with your fingers. If it feels "crunchy" or has side-to-side play, the internal cartridge bearings are likely worn out. These units are generally sealed and replaced as a whole rather than serviced.
